Sam Coulton
Sam Coulton is a London based designer and creative with experience across architectural, set, and immersive theatre projects. He manages design from concept to completion, balancing practical production realities with distinctive and original creative ideas.
As Lead Designer at SWEAR Studio, Sam has worked on Gorillaz live shows since 2022, encompassing multiple world tours, one-off performances such as Coachella and the MTV EMAs, and the House of Kong exhibitions in London and Los Angeles. He has also delivered high-profile projects including the Brit Awards 2022 and Blur at Coachella 2024. In his role, he leads small teams of designers, ensuring creative vision aligns with production and construction requirements. At SWEAR, he has also collaborated with world-renowned visual artists and theatre companies, including Punchdrunk, for the Arcane immersive production in Shanghai. Additionally, he serves as the Architectural Designer and Build Manager of IICON for Block9 at Glastonbury Festival.
Alongside his professional practice, Sam is a Lecturer in Drawing and Digital Skills at UCL, following his award of the Sir Banister Fletcher Medal for achieving the highest marks at The Bartlett School of Architecture in 2018. He has taught in London since the age of 21, and has lectured at Greenwich University. He has also participated in industry-focused panel talks at Central Saint Martins and for BBC Introducing, sharing insights on design, production, and creative practice.
His academic work received a commendation for the RIBA Silver Medal and has been published in Dezeen, with his thesis featured in AJAR: Arena Journal of Architectural Research. He is currently a member of the RIBA Educational Development Group and has served on five bursary and scholarship review panels.​
